I read COC in front of jws with a different book cover on the book. Still have it stored this way.

BREAK TIME!
by sacolton inis it just me or did breaks seem unusally long - well, at least in the groups i worked in.. we'd do 45 minutes of door-knocking (lots of "not at homes") and take an hour break ... sometimes longer!
lol!.
other times we'd just drive around trying to find the street we are supposed to work.

Breaks were always a subject of controversy. Some lived for the breaks and others resented them. One sister would refuse to go into the fast food place and sit in the car and read. So we just let her.
I never saw anything wrong with taking a break, especially if it was hot or cold outside and where I live it is usually one or the other. I also refused to stop my time. I figured at work I didn't clock out for a break, so why would I in service?
People were always so uptight about starting and stopping their time. We would all leave the hall at the same time and then some wouldn't allow themselves to start their time until they got their turn to get out of the car. Is that crazy or what? I just ignored them. There was one brother who got a clock with a start and stop feature and he would actually start each person's time when they first got out of the car and then stop it the last time they returned to the car. He would announce it to everyone. I ignored him too.

Mat 27.52 bodies of holy ones.Sorry,bro.Franz but YOU'RE RIDICULING US
by aligot ripounsous inafter jesus' death, mat.
27 : 52-53 reads : and the memorial tombs were opened and many bodies of the holy ones that had fallen asleep were raised up, (and persons, coming out from among the memorial tombs after his being raised up, entered into the holy city,) and they became visible to many people.
let me first give cognac the credit for having raised this topic lately (i don't know what was written on jwd in the past on this subject).

Matt. 27:52,53 has always seemed strange to me. The watchtower explanation only makes matters worse. There were, as Joseph mentions, resurrections mentioned in the Bible before Jesus was resurrected from the dead. Granted, they weren't dead for centuries, but they had to be dead to qualify for a resurrection.
Jesus' resurrection was different because he was the first to be resurrected from human form to heaven as a spirit creature. That it the only way he could have been "first."
Why this event is not included elsewhere is puzzling. It would have been quite astonishing.

What prompted the whopper of all Flip Flops? (Sodom & G. resurrection)
by Open mind inin pre-studying my watchtower for this sunday, (with mary's assistance on v's thread of course), i was reminded of something i've wondered about re: the whole "will the residents of sodom & gomorrah be resurrected?
" question.. to my knowledge, this one holds the watchtower record for most number of flip-flops.
please correct me if i'm wrong.

I have a hard time believing these flip flops are just an oversight or mistake by various writers. I can believe that whenever they thought they needed to instill fear and maintain tighter control over the flock, they chose the hardline view of no hope for those destroyed.
It never ceases to amaze me that the society can't just leave questions like this alone. By trying to look like they have "special knowledge", they always end up looking extremely foolish.

IMPORTANT: Elders Mtg at Patterson
by confusa ina witness just informed me about a couple that we know who had their assembly recently, and it was announced at the private elder's meeting that there will be a special meeting with all the elders in the us in patterson.
it was mentioned that we are now living "in the end of end of times" and that the un is talking about prohibiting religions.
has anyone heard of this??

The UN is not capable of banning religion. Taxing religion, on the other hand, would have a very significant effect on all religions. The watchtower has changed policies to avoid taxes in the past, such as not charging for literature and getting rid of food service.
If there's anything coming up, it is much more likely to involve taxes. As far as being the end, that has been and continues to go on forever.
The only training they give elders is how to avoid any legal liability.

Great video. Nice memories. I love tennis. The Austrailian Open was very entertaining as it brought new, wonderful players to life. I loved to watch Djokovic and Ana. Ana didn't win, but maybe later this year.
Looking forward to the French Open.

Drinking & Jehovah's Witnesses
by minimus inyou know, i knew a lot of bethelites and every one of them loved their booze.
as an elder, i would entertain alot of the cos, dos and bethelites and their wives.
it was not unusual for the wives to get loaded while they were at my house!

Drinking is very common amongst witnesses. I think you're right about it being one of the few acceptable ways to loosen up. I knew quite a few heavy drinkers, many of them elders. I knew one elder's wife who is a known alcoholic, but it is just overlooked because her family runs the congo, husband is secretary and son is PO.

From Rutherford -2008 Watchtower ="dont have kid's till after Armagedon!"
by Witness 007 inyes i thought rutherford's policy on kid's was dead and the society had wised up....until i read the new "witnesses only" watchtower study magazine...compare.. rutherford's last book "children" 1942 = p.281 "wait until after armagedon to bring children into the world...it is only afew years before the other sheep are gathered to the lord, until armagedon...those with infants during armagedon will have greater woe...it would be a far greater difficulty to care for them during the tribulation.".
watchtower 2008 april 15 p.19 {picture of a middle aged couple witnessing with question: why do some christian couples decide not to have children?
} paragraph 12 "single or childless for a noble purpose.....numerous couples have decided to remain childless....they often do so to remain freer to serve jehovah...they are willing to place kingdom interests above some of the privileges that go with marriage...jehovah will not forget their work, and the love they show for his name...there will be a great tribulation...doubtless, it will be a difficult time for all of us-adults and children alike.".

The guilt these crazy men impose on people is criminal. Having children is a personal decision and a God given right. I feel so sorry for anyone who listens to them and ends up old and lonely. The jws don't have such a good reputation for taking care of their elderly.
I don't know about couples who remain childless being big donaters to the society. I've known quite a few who just became spoiled and greedy, spending all their money on themselves.

Watchtower Question from readers= Slams hunting??? Why???
by Witness 007 ineven though the bible does not condemn hunting watch them push their personal opinion and trun it into watchtower law.. watchtower dec 1 2007 p.31 "how should christians view hunting?
} "the bible does not condemn hunting or fishing.." {great leave it there..no need to push personal thoughts on brothers, right?
} ".....the apostles who were fisherman were likely gratified by a good catch.

They begrudge every moment of time spent away from the indoctrination sessions. I knew a farm family that stayed away from meetings during harvest season. Isn't that the illustration that the bible uses for the preaching work? Must make some sense then.
